Monash Animanga Otaku Unity(MAOU) was established in July 2008, initially to provide Monash students with means to share and enjoy the passion for Anime and Manga, including related cultural fields, hobbies and activities.

Our aims and objectives are:

a)      To promote anime and manga related fields

b)      To expose members to Japanese Youth culture and traditions

c)      To gather anime and manga fans

d)      To promote healthy interaction via anime, manga and Japanese Youth culture.

e)    To encourage "anime and manga is an form of art appreciation"

f)     To build up healthy interest in anime and manga

g)     To provide a platform for members as self-improvement

Inspiration

The inspiration of establishing a Japanese/Anime Club was an idea struck by our founders. Since Monash does not have a Japanese Club during that time, it has highly potential that our club can establish. Therefore, the club was successfully established in July 2008 as a probation club.

MAOU, the name was firstly used in 2008. Previously, we were known as the Monash Anime Otaku Club. The name, MAOU, was an inspiration from a member, which means the DEVIL KING in Japanese. The name was likable by many members, and thus we adapted the name till now.

How does it started

MAOU started off as a probation club. We managed to recruit 120 members during the Club and Societies Week and had a very small committee.

During that time, some activities and events did not get well intention of the Monash-ians, and yet, we did not give up to become an official club.

After many failures as our stepping stones, in July 2009, we were finally established as new official Monash club.
